Planning

Planning includes the development of effective strategies and technologies which allow for the early detection, deep evaluation and efficient notification of threats.

Advancement

IDENTPOL issues Advisories including publications, alerts and advisory briefings as well as specialized seminars, contributing to advance the protection of lives worldwide.

Strategy overview

Investigation of past and present events with large loss of lives. Research on their causes, early signs and impact. Studies on early detection, best evaluation, efficient notification and successful response to similar or new threats. Advisory assistance to those services involved in the protection of lives in emergency situations.

The above are the main elements of IDENTPOL strategy and working system. The Institute works in a dynamic manner, with tasks assigned to specialized teams responding to one of the Institute's Units or Sections. Liaison personnel may be attached to an specific task and/or region temporarily or permanently. Itinerant personnel may be deployed at the discretion of a Unit or Section Coordinator. IDENTPOL areas of interest comprise:

Threats of possible avoidance
These are man caused disasters or natural events which impact could be either prevented or largely mitigated through better strategies and technologies.
Unpredictable threats
These are randomly occurring threats or threats of new aetiology. Early detection strategies and technologies are vital in this type of threats.
Threats of slow development
Some events of large impact are the final result of slow developing conditions, as much in nature as in activities involving man. The capacity to detect such development at an early time and to evaluate its possible outcome is crucial for avoiding or at least limiting the impact of such threats in advance.
Extreme threats and events
Extreme events are those which may cause the destruction of such a large part of our resources, habitat or quantity of lives that our whole civilization may become in peril. Unfortunately, these type of events have occurred in Nature in the past and may repeat under certain conditions.
